Fourteen-year-old Travis suffers with sickle cell anemia, a blood disorder that keeps cells from delivering oxygen properly. Travis has spent a lot of time at the hospital, a difficult act for any child who wants to be outside playing. Since Travis is often kept from participating in many physical activities, he has focused his energies on school and his love for electronics. When the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Georgia and Alabama told Travis that he qualified to receive a wish, he began considering all the options. He thought about asking for a new game system, because he loves video games. He even thought about becoming an astronaut. But ultimately, Travis wished for a high-end notebook computer with all the accessories, because he new it would help him with his schoolwork and would entertain him when he is at home and feeling low. Travis specifically wanted the theme for the computer to be red. He also wanted access to the internet, because he wanted to be able to email his friends and have gaming options. Wish volunteers began searching for all the perfect accessories for Travis’ “red” computer. Travis’ wish sponsor set to work planning an amazing wish party where the computer would be unveiled. After a few weeks, Travis’ wish day arrived, and he was all smiles! Travis was thrilled with the extra surprises he received including DVDs, extra ink for his printer, a desk, a red chair and additional games to play on his computer. It was truly a day that Travis and his family will never forget. Travis’ wish has boosted his spirits and renewed his excitement to tackle whatever wonders soon await him.
