Walk For Wishes Athens Supports Local Wishes

Date

November 16, 2015

Location

ATHENS, Ga.

Athens, Ga. – The second annual Walk For Wishes Athens which was held at Oconee Veterans Park on Saturday, October 18 raised more than $20,000 to support Make-A-Wish Georgia’s efforts to grant the wishes of local children battling life-threating medical conditions.

More than 250 members of the Athens community enjoyed the beautiful weather and family fun event. This number included six wish families in attendance who helped represent the 14 wishes granted in Athens in 2015.

Walk participants got to meet and mingle with four wish ambassadors who have already benefited from a wish experience: Sophia, Max, Anna Kate and Ethan. There were also a number of fun activities for families, including a bouncy castle, cornhole, arts and crafts and balloon animals.

“Looking around the park today brought me so much joy.  It brought back so many memories of the incredible wish Make-A-Wish Georgia provided Sophia because of the community’s help,” said wish alum mom, Maria.

With an average wish cost of $10,000, the funds raised during the Walk For Wishes Athens will be enough to grant at least two wishes to local children battling life-threatening medical conditions.  These wishes are made possible thanks to the hard work of our walk teams and the support of our community partners Athens First Bank & Trust, the UGA Chi Omega chapter, First American Bank & Trust, Oconee State Bank, Kind Snacks, Athens Video and Online Athens.

In 2014, the first Walk For Wishes Athens was held at Sandy Creek Park and raised just over $18,000. This is one of four Walk events that happen each year across the state of Georgia.

There are currently 37 pending wishes in the Athens area. To continue donating to the Walk For Wishes Athens, visit www.walkforwishesgeorgia.org/athens. For a full photo album of the event, visit https://www.flickr.com/photos/makeawishga/albums/72157658043328613.
