FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LAGRANGE, Ga. – The first ever Walk For Wishes West Georgia was further evidence that wishes can bring a community together. Close to 100 participants gathered on the morning of Saturday, August 15 and raised over $10,000 to support local wishes in the west Georgia region.
“There are children right here in West Georgia that are getting wishes granted,” said event chairman Robby Burch. “What we want to do is help raise funds to make it possible for even more children across the state to have their wish fulfilled.”
Make-A-Wish Georgia granted 21 wishes to children in the LaGrange area during 2014 and there are currently 25 wishes waiting to be granted. With an average wish cost of $9,000, the money raised during Walk For Wishes: West Georgia will make it possible for Make-A-Wish Georgia to grant at least one more wish in the community.
Five local wish families severed as the Walk For Wishes wish ambassadors. One of these wish kids was sixteen-year-old Eddy whose wish to meet her favorite band was granted in 2014.
“Thank you to all of the people who support Make-A-Wish,” said Eddy. “Having a wish helps kids like me push on and know that there is something good that can come out of our life.”
Another one of the five wish ambassadors was 12-year-old Thomas who wished to go to Disney World with his family back in 2013.
“We are grateful to Make-A-Wish Georgia and all that they do to help bring children like Thomas a little bit of joy,” said Thomas’ father, Will. “We are very thankful for all of the people who took the time to come out this morning and walk and support all of the children that Make-A-Wish Georgia supports.”
Thank you to all of the sponsors who made the event possible: Boatwright Certified Public Accountants, Calumet Bank, Emory at LaGrange and Interface, as well as our two in-kind sponsors, KIND Heathy Snacks and the City of LaGrange.
