#ForWishes: Cindy Vo

Cindy Vo
Make-A-Wish Georgia impacted my life by showing me that anything you want to accomplish or do in life is possible.

My senior year of high school, I was an athlete and a member of the Navy ROTC. I had been offered a full scholarship to the Navy. Everything was wonderful

Then, I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. It felt like my world stopped. Not only was I fighting the cancer, I also battled depression.

I love the movie Finding Nemo. It has always reminded me about my battle with cancer. At first, I was lost, but I had to keep swimming until I reached my goal of beating cancer.

That's why I wished to go to Australia and go snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef, where the movie is set. I never thought a small town girl like me would be able to go to Australia. I've never felt more thankful in my life.

The wish gave me hope. Most of all, it helped me realize, for the very first time, that I am a survivor. The wish brought everything full circle for me.

I'm now in college at Kennesaw State majoring in Systems Engineering with a minor in Aerospace Engineering. I'm a cancer survivor.

Through the hardship and pain, my family and I beat something that no one wants to deal with. I see now that life is worth fighting for.

Cancer was unfortunate, but I would not be the person I am today if it hadn't happen. I know that it's a gift still be here every day.

My name is Cindy Vo and I am #ForWishes.
