Joseph couldn't wait to share his most heartfelt wish with Make-A-Wish volunteers. Although he often plays football with his friends in his spare time, Joseph’s greatest wish was to take this pastime a step further and become a Tight End for the Georgia Bulldogs for a day.
Above his love for Jason Aldean and “The Walking Dead,” sixteen-year-old Joseph has one ultimate passion: football. He is a zealous Falcons and UGA fan, idolizes Matt Ryan and Tony Gonzalez and loudly and proudly sports the colors red and black. Although Joseph was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma and is currently undergoing treatment, he doesn’t let his cancer prevent him from living his life and staying active. Although he often plays football with his friends in his spare time, Joseph’s greatest wish was to take this pastime a step further and become a Tight End for the Georgia Bulldogs for a day.
In anticipation of his wish, Joseph received tickets to attend both the North Texas game in Sanford Stadium, as well as the much-anticipated Florida-Georgia rivalry match in Jacksonville. As Joseph’s mom, Katrina, stated, “We had a blast…[It’s] all Joseph keeps talking about!” However, nothing could compare to the incredible wish presentation day!
Joseph and his family were transported by limousine to the Butts-Mehre Facilities in Athens. There, Joseph got taped up, toured the sports medicine facilities, ate breakfast with players—including his favorite tight end, Arthur Lynch—and talked to coaches. One surprise of the day came when Joseph was presented with a UGA jersey with his name and favorite number across the back. After getting completely outfitted, Joseph sat in on “segments” with tight ends and their position coach, Coach Lilly, before heading out to practice with the team. A highlight of the wish featured Joseph running full plays with the first team offense and catching crucial passes! The dreamlike day concluded with a mob of players lifting Joseph in celebration. Finally, Joseph got to tour Sanford Stadium and add on to the growing list of special memories to last a lifetime. Joseph added, “It was an amazing experience. I’ve dreamed about playing here since I was five and I finally got the chance. Make-A-Wish® made it come true and I finally got to do what I dreamed of doing.”
