Niki keeps things on track

Niki wished to be a train conductor

“ Niki’s smile beamed and his confidence skyrocketed because he felt like a big, strong man who was able to get up into the train! ”

All aboard!

Trains have always fascinated Niki.  His family is from Bulgaria and traveled to the U.S. for experimental treatments for Niki’s brain tumor.  Trains are so prevalent in Europe so it was natural for Niki to wish to get behind the wheel!

Niki and his parents met the engineers on the train platform and they were so excited to show Niki behind the scenes of the railway! The Stone Mountain engineers were generous with their time and so kind to Niki and his parents.  They lit up discussing their shared passion for all things rail and loved learning about how Niki works with service dogs at the hospital.

Conductor Niki gets things chugging along

In order to drive the train, Niki had to climb way up over his head into the side of the train.  Niki didn’t let his condition stop him and the engineers and his father boosted Niki into the train.  Niki’s smile beamed and his confidence skyrocketed because he felt like a big, strong man who was able to get up into the train!

Once in the cabin, Niki drove the train conductor and his parents all around Stone Mountain in the FP7A #6143, a diesel-electric locomotive.  Niki looked the part by being outfitted with an embroidered Stone Mountain official engineer hat and an authentic train whistle.

The power of a wish

After his wish, Niki was smiling more, and his energy led to him opening up and sharing his story.  He was more communicative and thrilled his parents by expressing his enthusiasm!

Niki and his parents also received 3-day Adventure Passes to all of Stone Mountain Park.  They enjoyed the laser light show, duck boat ride and the scenic views from the cable car!

Niki’s wish experience truly impacted his family as it was the first time they really had a break in their treatment, and were able to feel like a normal family once again!
