Just as it has done for the past twelve years, the Walk For Wishes event brings members of the community together to support Make-A-Wish Georgia’s mission to grant the wishes of local children battling life-threatening medical conditions.
Wish kids and their families, wish granting volunteers, sponsors, supporters and staff will all be in attendance to validate the impact that wishes have on local children and communities.
But perhaps the most honored guests at Walk for Wishes Atlanta are the four wish ambassadors: Harrison, Ellie, Joshua and Leah. These wish kid alums represent the almost 7,000 local children who have received wishes from Make-A-Wish Georgia since 1995.
Nine-year-old Harrison wished for a treehouse. Ten-year-old Joshua wished for a backyard basketball court. Nine-year-old Ellie wished to be a guest judge on the TV show Master Chef Junior. And six-year-old Leah wished to go to Disney World. The common thread with each of these amazing kids is the fact that their wish restored their hope, renewed their strength, and gave them something to look forward to when dealing with some of life's biggest challenges.
Registration for the event begins at 8 a.m., followed by a two-mile walk around downtown Atlanta. The event features live music and a fun activities for kids, including face painting, sand art, tailgating games and balloon animals.
All individuals who fundraise $100 will also receive the official 2016 Walk For Wishes Atlanta t-shirt. Top fundraisers of $1,000 or more are also receive a VIP experience, including a hot breakfast at the Walk. To begin fundraising, go to www.GeorgiaWalkForWishes.org/Atlanta and create a team!
The event is expected to raise over $450,000 for Make-A-Wish Georgia. With an average wish cost of just over $10,000, this goal would be enough to grant the wishes of 45 local children.
Thanks to all of the generous event sponsors and individual donors who make this possible. Some of our top sponsors include The Home Depot, Wilson Parker Homes, Balfour Beatty Construction, Graphic Packaging, Heery International and Transwestern.
