Exploring the open seas and hunting for treasure is no easy task. Truth is, a pirate’s life isn’t for everyone. But for one special kid named Areice, a pirate’s life was just the adventure he was seeking. Five years ago, Areice faced rough waters after being diagnosed with cancer.
Yearning to be the captain of his own ship during an uncertain season, Areice declared his wish to be a pirate! He imagined a day filled with adventure on the open sea while searching high and low for treasures.
On International Talk Like a Pirate Day, a willing crew of sailors from the seas of California arrived dressed as pirates and welcomed Areice aboard his ship! As captain, Areice set sail on the salty waters. As the sun beamed in the sky, he drew his sword to fight off invading pirates and protect the mermaid. With the discovery of a rustic map, Areice found “x marks the spot” and dived into the treasure that was hidden on the ship. He became the hero!
For Areice, his wish allowed him to be the captain of his own story at a time when he had very little control. Areice’s wish gave him the courage to conquer the challenges he faced. Today, Areice is cancer-free and always looking for new adventures to captain.
It is because of the help of an entire community that one little boy felt like the hero we always knew he was. Areice’s wish is proof that where there’s a wish, there’s a way. A wish gives kids the ability to let their imagination soar. You can be a part of igniting that spark for Georgia kids.
