Gavin's Wish to be a Train Conductor

Gavin wished to be a train conductor

“ His smile was endless! ”

- Gavin's mom

Gavin's battle with t-cell lymphoma did not stop him from enjoying the same things as other little boys. When Make-A-Wish® volunteers visited Gavin to determine his most heartfelt wish, he knew exactly what he wanted to do. Gavin wanted to be a train conductor!

Five-year-old Gavin was diagnosed with acute t-cell lymphoma, a type of cancer that occurs when essential parts of the body's immune system become malignant and begin to invade and destroy internal tissues. Despite battling his illness, Gavin enjoys many of the same things that other little boys do. He developed a special interest in trains while watching the Thomas the Train™ television show. He knows all of the characters from the show, and has always been completely enthralled with all things train-related.

When Make-A-Wish® Georgia volunteers visited Gavin to determine his most heartfelt wish, he knew exactly what he wanted to do. Gavin wanted to be a train conductor! He wanted the opportunity to see a train up close, spend time with the train workers and spend the night in a caboose!

Gavin and his family traveled to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where they visited the Tennessee Valley Railroad, one of the largest operating historic railroads in the United States. They stayed at the Chattanooga Choo Choo hotel, rode on the North Pole Polar Express and visited the Tennessee Aquarium, among other attractions, during their fun-filled family adventure. Make-A-Wish Georgia created memories they will cherish forever.
