Carson was born with sickle cell anemia, a blood disorder that affects hemoglobin in the red blood cells. Doctors immediately started working to find a medication regimen to help him, and until last year, his condition was well managed with medication. In November of 2018, Carson’s health began to drastically decline, and he was in and out of the hospital. His parents started pressing for a bone marrow transplant, but in the meantime, they chose to celebrate life as a family!
A BIG HOORAH BEFORE TRANSPLANT DAY
Carson’s wish to go to LEGOLAND® gave him and his family a chance to celebrate and commemorate what would soon be one of the biggest moments of their lives.
LEGOLAND customized an experience specially for Carson. From the LEGO room to the activities they planned, everything was so personal, making Carson feel special, worthy and cared for.
“He absolutely loved it,” said Carson’s mom. “He was so upset when we had to leave!”
Carson’s wish gave him the strength he needed to put up his hardest fight yet. When he returned home, Carson started a week of chemo to wipe his immune system before his bone marrow transplant. His perfect match...? His little sister!
Following his transplant, he spent 30+ days in isolation at the hospital, and the memories of his wish kept him going when times got tough.
Now, Carson is completely cured and shares a forever bond with his life-saving donor and best friend!
