Disney, here comes Josiah!

Josiah had a magical time in the most magical place on earth!

“ Getting a wish is an honor you wouldn’t choose to receive, but holy cow! It’s incredible. We’re so thankful! ”

- Lacy, Josiah's mom

Sometimes kids with critical illnesses can conceal their struggle. They can blend in with the rest of the kids their age. Despite everything he’s been through, that’s the truth for Josiah; you would never know he was born with half a heart.

His mom, Lacy, remembers learning about his condition when she was just 23 weeks pregnant. While she and her husband were incredibly scared, they’re thankful to have learned when they did. “It gave us time to learn all that we could before his arrival.”

Josiah has endured 3 open heart surgeries, heart failure and multiple urgent hospital stays in his short 7 years of life. His positive attitude and warrior spirit have carried him through all the tough moments. And when moments got too tough, he turned to all things Disney. Lacy recalls him starting to ask about Mickey Mouse when he was just 2 years old, so it was no surprise to her when he wished to go to Disney World!

From eating ice cream every day to building his very own droid and light saber, Josiah and his parents explored all they could! They sat in the wet zone for the Sea Lion show, played at the arcade and made friends with the volunteers at Give Kids The World®.

While Josiah was most excited to meet Star Wars characters, Donald Duck turned out to be his favorite! He met Donald Duck on his 7th birthday, and when Donald Duck realized what day it was… he got everyone in line to sing happy birthday to Josiah. It was a moment he’ll never forget.

“He’s already asking when we can go back,” said his mom. “Seeing my kid enjoying life, without a care in the world, was so special.”
